What is Mock Trial

Mock Trial is a competitive, team-based activity that emulates a real trial where students are both the attorneys and the witnesses. Our team constructs a case using exhibits, case law, and the testimony of our witnesses. Our lawyers question the witnesses and give statements at the beginning and end of the trial, presenting our theory of the case and why we believe the jury should find in our favor. Since Mock Trial heavily emphasizes presentation, we try to make our case as exciting as possible. Our witnesses often use accents and props to portray a character more accurately, and our attorneys try to find “gotcha” moments where they can trap an opposing team’s witness into admitting a bad fact.

Who are we?

Swarthmore Mock Trial is a student-run, competitive mock trial program. Individual creative expression is at the core of who we are; we take pride in the ability of all members to let their personalities shine through. Our teams attend numerous tournaments in the fall and spring semesters, taking the fall to hone our talents at invitationals before the Regionals driven post-season in the spring. In the 24-25 year our A team went 8-0 at Regionals, and finished 5-3 at ORCS, just half a ballot away from qualifying for Nationals. We look forward to improving our results this year while maintaining our creative identity along the way.
